In the Aldrich Room and by Zoom: Wednesday February 7th, Wednesday March 6th, Wednesday April 3rd 5:15 p.m.—6:45 p.m. Please contact Jared Jenisch at jared.jenisch@thehowe.org to reserve a spot. Attendance is limited to 10. In these meetings we will read poems that invite us to slow down, to stop and look around, to accept where we are and whatever is happening. We will also write together silently in response to short prompts, followed by optional sharing. No experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down, to relax, to open to the moment, to listen to ourselves, and others. The author of ten books of poetry, Laura Foley’s most recent collection is: It’s This (Fernwood Press, 2023). Her poems have won many awards and appeared in over a hundred journals such as Alaska Quarterly, Valparaiso, Poetry Society London, Atlanta Review, and included in anthologies such as: Poetry of Presence: An Anthology of Mindfulness Poems, and How to Love the World: Poems of Gratitude and Hope. Laura’s poems have been turned into choral music and performed in venues such as the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Carnegie Hall in New York. Trained as a Buddhist Chaplain, she has led many writing groups at DHMC for survivors of serious illnesses and their caregivers. She holds an MA and MPhil in Comparative Literature from Columbia University, and lives with her wife and their two romping canines on the steep banks of the Connecticut River, in New Hampshire.
